Hi. I’m Nicholas Lavella and I am a interactive designer, creative coder, media producer, and DJ. I am currently completing my final semester at Emerson College, where I will earn a degree in interactive media with a minor in political communications. Long before my time at Emerson I began working with both traditional and nontraditional digital media.
From a young age I have always been drawn to art, both as a spectator and a creator. Even after starting with drawing and painting I quickly realized that digital art was my true medium. After acquiring my first computer I quickly jumped from drawing and painting into video editing, graphic design and other media work. I truly began to create my own work when I discovered live visuals, creative coding and data visualization. For the last three years I have been learning and experimenting with creative coding as an opportunity to create my own work that displays realtime graphics and well as interactivity.
In addition to my interactive interests I have always been involved in the world of political communications. Throughout high school I was heavily involved in student government, holding many positions both within my school district as well as the state organization, Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils, where not only did I effectively work as a representative but also brought digital media to the world of political communications. I made use of video and online content as well as making use of social media to communicate and educate. After my first year at Emerson I realized I needed more than just an interactive media degree so I perused a minor in political communications where I learned both larger theories of political communication but also traditional and up and coming methods of integrating media into politics.
